Hospice
Hospice is a philosophy of care for adult and pediatric patients and their loved ones to help them live as fully as possible while dealing with a terminal illness.
APPROACH TO CARE
The hospice team develops a personalized, comprehensive care plan that addresses the physical, emotional, social, practical, and spiritual needs of the patient with an emphasis on pain and symptom management. Staff also provide support to the family/caregiver.
The hospice teams consist of nurses, physicians, social workers, trained volunteers, home care aides, and pastoral and bereavement counselors. Registered dietitians and rehabilitation therapists are available if needed. Bereavement support groups in Cambridge, Danvers, Needham, and Worcester are open to the community.
Patients who would like to continue receiving aggressive treatment or who are not ready for hospice may still utilize the agency's expertise in pain and symptom management through Care Choices Palliative Care services.
SETTINGS
Hospice makes it possible for patients to remain at home during much or all of their illness. If patients are unable to remain in their own homes, care is also available at our residences:
- Chilton House, Cambridge (Take a virtual tour.)
- Rose Monahan Hospice Home, Worcester (Take a virtual tour.)
- Tippett Home, Needham (Take a virtual tour.)
All three hospice residences provide a homelike place for patients to live and receive hospice.
